“There’s still another part of that equation that needs focused healing, love, and support”: Development of support groups for human trafficking co-survivors
Awards Received/Special Achievements
- Throughout the MPH program, I had the privilege of speaking with many survivors and co-survivors of human trafficking from Richmond to help develop a support group manual for the loved ones of survivors. I cherish these conversations as they have taught me so much about the importance of trauma informed practice, making connections with people's humanity, and community engagement within public health.
- I am honored that the media team from the VCU School of Medicine recognized me as the feature for the 2021 commencement article. I spoke on addressing the harmful power dynamics that exist within academia, how integrating the grief of losing a parent in the middle of graduate study has shaping me both professionally & personally, and how every profession can benefit from trauma informed practice.
